Top 5 Places to Visit in South Korea if You Are a Lover of All Things K-pop and K-drama

If you are a K-pop fan, there is a high possibility that you are also a fan of K-dramas. And even if you aren’t into K-pop, K-dramas are hard to let go of these days especially if you are a hard movie fanatic. I joined the K-drama train officially in 2020 and I haven’t looked back since then.

One thing I am fascinated by is the Korean Culture. It’s no surprise to me because I am mostly swayed by several cultures around the world like the Hindu culture, and Japanese culture amongst others. I just love a good mix of lifestyle changes beyond my home country Nigeria.

Now let’s take this culture love a bit further. I took the liberty to curate five places you need to visit if you ever find yourself in South Korea. Why though? If you are reading this article, there is a 70% chance that you are an explorer and a lover of K-drama. Or perhaps, curiosity brought you here. Anyway, let’s plan our next trip to South Korea by jotting a few places to go (manifesting this in my wild imagination lol).

I bring to you five interesting places to visit as a first-time traveler in South Korea.

First on my list is the majestic Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul. As a K-drama fan, you must have seen this palace countless times in various dramas, and trust me, it’s even more breathtaking in person (from the pictures I have seen, I can only imagine). The sheer history and architecture of this palace will most likely leave you in awe. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes, as you’ll be doing a lot of walking and exploring.

Next up is the vibrant Myeong-dong shopping district in Seoul. If you’re a shopaholic like me, you’ll be in paradise here. From high-end designer brands to affordable local boutiques, Myeong-dong has something for everyone. And when you need a break from shopping, there are quite several delicious street foods to try as well as some local Korean cuisine.

Third on my list is the stunning Jeju Island. This beautiful island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With its lush green landscapes, stunning waterfalls, and black sand beaches, Jeju Island is a nature lover’s dream come true. You can take a hike, go snorkeling, or simply relax on the beach – there’s something for every kind of traveler.

Fourth is the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) between North and South Korea. As a history lover, I find places like this fascinating. The DMZ is a unique and sobering experience that gives you a glimpse into the country’s tumultuous past. Be sure to visit the Joint Security Area, the Third Tunnel, and the Dora Observatory for a comprehensive understanding of the region’s history.

Last but not least, is the bustling Hongdae neighborhood in Seoul. This trendy area is known for its street art, indie music scene, and nightlife. If you’re a fan of K-pop, you might even spot some idol groups performing live at one of the many music venues. Hongdae is also a great place to try some local street food and drinks, like hotteok and makgeolli.

There you have it – five must-visit places in South Korea for a first-time traveler. Whether you’re a K-drama fan, a culture enthusiast, or simply a curious explorer, South Korea has something for everyone. So, go ahead and manifest that trip to South Korea (like I am, lol!), and get ready for the adventure of a lifetime.
