Best of Nollywood Movies Released so far in 2024

Hey… movie lovers, popcorn lovers, Nollywood fans alike! As you all know, the Nigeria film industry is now commonly recognized as one of the biggest in the world. We are talking top-notch actors, higher production and a Fan base that’s totally hyped up.
It’s heaven for Nigerian movies lovers as 2024 is already gagged up. Last year was insanely refreshing, with the likes of Jagun Jagun, A tribe called Judah, Shanty town and others.
Well, I won’t bore you with the long stories, so let’s dive straight to the good stuff. I’m dishing out best of 2024 so far and of course amazing movies to look out for as the year unfolds. Whether you are after the latest Drama, comedy or you are eager for a little romance, I’ve got everything you need to know below.


OLUTORE ( THE JOURNEY)

Olutore is an excellent movie that provides a much needed view into human trafficking in Nigeria. After a disappointing abrupt end of Oluture released in 2019 leaving fans wanting more, well guess what? The producers totally came through with an amazing sequel which was released in January 2024.


ANIKULAPO
In 2022, Anikulapo debuted on netflix. Who didn’t see Anikilapo? I guess with the pressure from social media you practically had to watch it. Fans couldn’t get enough of it. And then Kunle Afolayan the movie maestro, came through again, dropping the sequel on March 1st, 2024. This time it wasn’t just another movie, it was a six part series that had us glued to the screen for hours, totally munching on our popcorn while we soaked it all in.


MOMIWA
When you’ve got Uzor Arukwe, Iyabo ojo and Blessing Jessica, you know you are in for a good time. This movie was released on Prime Video May 10th 2024. It’s a family drama about a beloved house keeper who brings joy to the home until the wife returns, stirring tension and rivalry for affection within the family. It’s a recent release and great reviews are already pouring in.



POST CARD
This isn’t the first Nigerian/ Indian colaboration. After Namaste Wahala, fans shouldn’t expect anything less from this. Filmed in Lagos and Mumbai, the series follows the lives of four Nigerians who discover love, acceptance and prosperity in India. It stars Sola Sobowale, Richard Mofe Damijo, Tobi Bakare, Nancy Isime and others. This fresh release hit our screen on May 3rd 2024.



WATER AND GARRI
You have seen Tiwa Savage do her thing on stage. Looking all fabulous, but you have not seen her acting skills yet? Well here’s your chance. Tiwa Savage Water and Garri debuted on Prime video, on May 10th 2024. The movie which shared the same name as her Ep in 2021, explores the journey of Aisha played by Tiwa savage) an ambitious fashion designer returning to her homeland after a decade abroad. The film is inspired by Tiwa’s own life journey.



FUNMILAYO RANSOME-KUTI


When I say Nollywood is stepping up their game, I’m talking about stuff like this. There is a huge buzz about this movie which follows the life of Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, mother of Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapokuti. Produced and directed by Bolanle Austen- Peter the biopic stars Kehide Bankole, Ajoke silva, Adunni Ade, Omowummi Dada and others. The movie is set to debut on May 17th 2024.


TO KILL A MONKEY
We all know Kemi Adetiba brings the heat when it comes to movies. Every project from Kemi Adetiba is a hit back to back. Our finger are crossed as we anticipate this movie.
Kemi Adetiba’s To kill a monkey is a crime thriller series which stars Bucci franklin, Stella Damascus, Bimbo Akintola. The film is set to debut this year on Netflix.


FINDING MESSIAH
The trailer of this movie is out of the world as we are all itching to see it. Finding Messiah is a musical drama set in the fictional Republic of Zambay. It’s all put together by Oscarheman- Ackah and has some Nollywood Veterans in the cast. The likes of Pete Edochie, Segun Arinze and Alex osifo. Publicized as a big budget production which uses fictional language, the movie is set to debut this may.F


Uno (The F in Family)
Uno is a family Drama with a fine blend of indigenous Igbo, Pidgin English and English language. Coming to the Cinemas on the 17th of May 2024.


A Green fever
If you loved Breath of Life, then you are definitely going to be all over this movie. Set in the 80s, A Green Fever is a crime drama that stars Deyemi Okanlawon, Temi Fosudo. The film follows the story of kunmi and his daughter Ireti. Both of whom seek refuge in the house of a stranger when Ireti gets a stroke on a road trip. It premiered on Prime video on February 25th.
