THERE ARE 54 RECOGNISED SOVEREIGN COUNTRIES IN AFRICA

Africa is the second largest and most populous continent on Earth, it is bordered by the Mediterranean sea to the north, the Suez Canal and the red sea to the northeast, the Indian ocean to the southeast, and the Atlantic ocean to the west. It covers an area of about 30.37 million square kilometers.

COUNTRIES AND REGIONS

Africa comprises 54 recognized sovereign states, 2 disputed areas (Western Sahara and Somaliland), These countries are often grouped into different regions:

NORTH AFRICA: Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco.

WEST AFRICA: Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Ivory Coast, and Mali.

EAST AFRICA: Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Uganda, and Somalia.

CENTRAL AFRICA: The Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Gabon, and The Central African Republic.

SOUTHERN AFRICA: South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique.

Africa is a home for about 1.3 billion people, accounting for about 16% of the world’s human population. The continent boasts a diverse array of ethnic groups, languages, and cultures. Nigeria is the most populous country on the continent, followed by Ethiopia and Egypt

LANGUAGES

Africa is incredibly linguistically diverse, with over 2000 languages spoken. The continent has several major language families, including Afro-Asiatic, Nilo-Saharan, Niger-Congo, and Khoisan. Arabic, Swahili, Hausa, Yoruba, Amharic, Igbo, and Zulu are among the widely spoken languages.
